Empowering Students of Color Together
Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) is a student-led RSO at UW dedicated to providing a space for students of color passionate about public health and equitable healthcare. Given the importance of representation in the workforce, we strive to support students of color professionally, academically, and socially as they navigate their careers. Our mission is to cultivate an inclusive space for students of color while promoting health within marginalized communities through education and service.
At SCPH, we hold social events such as mixers and craft nights for members to develop new friendships and gain a sense of community. We also host professional development workshops to equip members with the tools necessary to prepare for job opportunities, as well as volunteer/experiential opportunities in collaboration with local organizations. By providing these opportunities to members they can connect with peers and public health professionals while gaining hands-on experience.
Our culminating event is the annual Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) Conference in the spring. Here, students engage in presentations, workshops, and discussions with public health professionals and peers about social justice work and the importance of diversity in public health. ARCH planning committee members collaborate in organizing the conference, building relationships with fellow students who are passionate about anti-racism in public health.
Updates on upcoming meetings and events are posted on our Instagram: @scphuw.
We aspire to uplift students of color who are interested in public health and healthcare and invite students of all backgrounds and career aspirations to join us in our mission to promote inclusivity and equity.
