Theme:
Empowering Communities: the Power of Public Health Communication
The rampant spread of misinformation and disinformation in public health has dire consequences. Measles, once eradicated in the United States, has returned due to rising vaccine hesitancy. Climate change denial, coupled with a lack of policy solutions, is causing communities significant harm, as seen in the recent Palisades Fire. Public health initiatives are increasingly met with rejection and mistrust. For many marginalized communities, this mistrust is not unfounded—it is rooted in histories of betrayal through racist public health practices.
Now, more than ever, the role of public health communication is critical. This year's theme highlights the need for transformative approaches that foster healthier, better-informed communities. At its core, the theme emphasizes the power of collaborating directly with communities to ensure public health initiatives are equitable, culturally responsive, and impactful. By doing so, we aim to develop solutions that not only address the urgent problem of disinformation but also build trust and lasting resilience to white supremacist and racist institutions that perpetuate these problems.
Through this theme, we invite participants to explore innovative strategies, tools, and practices to enhance public health communication. Together, let us empower communities to take charge of their health.

Thus, you can register using a fee-waiver option, no questions asked. You won't have to pay nor prove your financial status.
Is lunch provided?
Yes! We are providing light snacks and drip coffee from Leon Coffee House in the morning. Lunch at noon will consist of banh mis from Thanh Vi. Dessert at 3PM will be tres leches from Tres Lecheria. This is included in the cost of the conference.
All of our food is from local BIPOC small businesses! We will also accommodate for any dietary preferences, so please mention it in the RSVP form.
Can you network with speakers?
Yes! Something new this year is we're building protected Q&A time at the end of each talk. Speakers will also be available to network with during lunch and dessert.
What types of talks are there?
There are four talks: keynote, TED Talks, workshops, and career panelists. Keynote is a 50-minute speech on a broad overview of our theme. TED Talks are 20 minute speeches regarding how our theme applies to different areas of public health. Workshops are where the attendees split into groups and work with each other on a specific topic the workshop leaders provide. The career panel is a moderated discussion between the four panelists.
What accessibility accommodations are provided?
Our main form of accommodation is by providing CART captioning. The venue also has wheelchair accessible pathways and elevators. All food will be labeled with allergens. If you need any additional accommodations, please mention it in the RSVP form, and we will accomodate!
What is the dress code?
Typically conferences are business casual. However, we understand that accessing business casual is inaccessible for many, so we do not have any dress code. The ARCH Planning Committee will be in business casual, but you can come as you are.
